Duménil - Rèserve 26
Region: Champagne, Montagne de Reims, France
Grape: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier
Tasting: Red Apple / Pear / Apricot / Floral / Brioche / Creamy / Long Finish
Pairing: Dover Sole / Sturia Caviar / Aged Comte / Roast Chicken / Kurobuta Pork Chops
Producer: Reserve 26 is a tribute to Michel Dumenil and represents a unique non-vintage Champagne that showcases the estate's innovative approach to blending. The name reflects the 26 years currently held in their perpetual reserve, started by Michel with the great vintage of 1996. Drawing from 30 to 50-year-old vines planted on chalk and clay-limestone soils in the Premier Cru village of Chigny-les-Roses in the Montagne de Reims, this cuvée exemplifies the house's commitment to quality and sustainability.
The estate holds double High Environmental Value level 3 certification and Viticulture Durable certification, employing reasoned vineyard management with no insecticides and no pesticide residues. Following their "no sooner picked than pressed" doctrine, grapes are pressed in Coquard variable-capacity presses before undergoing malolactic fermentation in thermo-controlled stainless steel vats.
After three years of cellar ageing and six months' rest following disgorgement, the wine is finished with a liqueur made from reserve wine and cane sugar according to a historic recipe. The result is a seductive Champagne with delicate aromas of white flowers, notes of apple, pear and apricot, a very fine mousse, and elegant brioche flavours on the palate.
