Petit Langres
Origin: Champagne-Ardenne, France
This remarkable French cheese captivates with its distinctive shape featuring a characteristic basin or "fountain" at its summit, created by the unique ripening process where the Langres is turned only twice during maturation. Like its cousin Époisses, this cheese is regularly washed with salt water, developing a striking bright orange crust that signals its bold character. Beneath this vibrant exterior lies an ivory-white paste with exceptional suppleness and creamy texture that perfectly balances richness with refinement.
The minimal turning during ripening creates the signature fountain shape whilst allowing the cheese to develop from the outside in, creating layers of flavour and texture. The salt-water washing develops the distinctive orange rind and contributes to the cheese's complex, tangy character whilst the creamy interior provides luxurious mouthfeel.
Serve at room temperature to appreciate the creamy texture. The traditional way is to pour a splash of Champagne or white wine into the fountain depression before eating. Pair with crusty bread and cornichons, or enjoy simply with fresh baguette to let the cheese's character shine.
Producer: Made in the Champagne-Ardenne region using traditional methods, each wheel is carefully washed and turned just twice during maturation to achieve the characteristic fountain shape and develop the complex flavours.
Net: 200g (single unit)
Allergens: Contains milk. May contain traces of nuts.
